Passivhaus is a design methodology for ultra low-energy buildings, promoted by the Passivhaus Institut in Darmstadt, Germany. There are about 12,500 Passivhaus buildings worldwide and the approach is rapidly growing in popularity in the UK as developers and designers consider their options to meet the Government's zero carbon targets. The project at Wimbish was the UK's first rural affordable housing passivhaus project in the country.
Broadgate worked directly with all of the main partners involved in the project who were funding the site. Having developed a project logo the site was built within a few weeks. It quickly became a source of technical and news information for a wide range of audiences from architectural students to housing associations and developers.
